Claddagh RingsYour Heart Encircled in a Claddagh Ring

By Annetta Holmes When thinking of a way to convey the depth of your feelings to another, a piece of elegantly crafted jewelry comes to mind. The Claddagh ring, with its three-hundred-year history, has built into it everything we want to tell the one who owns our heart.  Its origins are within the hauntingly beautiful misty lands of the Emerald Isle. Drift off into that world filled with gentle rain and clear Irish tunes. The legend behind the ring involves a woman who waited, despite all reasons not to, for her love to return to the shores of their birth. Upon his arrival their love was encapsulated in the Claddagh ring. A true Irish tale.

Rings of Gold, Silver and Platinum.

The  Claddagh Ring is fashioned from these precious metals.  A medium that is truly just and right for when declaring ones love for another human being. The circle of metal has love, friendship and loyalty within its mould. The heart is for love, the crown is loyalty and the hands for friendship. The ring symbolizes the bond about to be cemented. Used as an engagement and then wedding band, the Claddagh represents those traits its wearer will need during the adventures and tribulations that are in every ones future when they commit to another.

 Claddagh Rings and Traditions.

The family rituals that we grow up with make us who we are. Stirring the Christmas pud three times then making a wish, blowing out birthday cake candles or exchanging rings at our wedding - ceremonies we hold close and pass on to our children. The heart of the Claddagh ring symbolises an unmistakable intention. Wear the heart outwards on the right hand and you are not spoken for. Turn the heart inwards and you are. When you have found your true love, the ring becomes your wedding band and is transferred to your left hand, heart pointing inwards.

These simple movements reinforce our values – the importance of which becomes lost as we race along with life. Too often the laundry, getting to work or squabbles take higher rank. The ring is the reminder of what really counts.
