US Coast Guard “Semper Paratus” –Always Ready
The U.S. Coast Guard is a division of the US Armed Forces that is deployed everyday for marine environmental protection, maritime homeland security, maritime law enforcement, search and rescue. It was established on 28 January 1915 as a maritime law enforcement military branch with jurisdiction in both international and domestic waters under the Department of Homeland Security and can be assigned to the Department of Navy in times of war.
The Coast Guard was established under the Department of the Treasury on August 4, 1790 in the U.S. Revenue Cutter Service by Alexander Hamilton. The Revenue Cutter Service was the only naval force of the U.S until the Navy was re-established in 1798.
The present headquarters of the Coast Guard is at 2100 Second Street, SW, in Washington, D.C. The four components of the Coast Guard are Regular, Reserve, Auxiliary and Coast Guard civilian employees. Their basic ethical guidelines are honor, respect and devotion to duty.
The Racing Stripe is the official Service mark of the US Coast Guard designed in 1964 and first used in 1967. It has a narrow blue stripe, a narrow white stripe between and a broad CG red bar shield at the center. The stripes are angled at a 64 degree, which is similar to the year the Racing Stripe was designed.
