Whether its for an unusual gift or as the perfect baptisimal occasion, nothing is more appreciated than clothes for the little treasure. I remember on one occasion when I was in Chicago attending a service on one Sunday morning, when after the service a child was been baptised. I went to observe how a baptisimal was performed in the US as I had just travelled from Ireland.
The normal white babtisimal gown was used throughout the ceremony and was quiet beautiful, but after that I was amazed to see the parents changing their little baby into one of these beautiful cardigans depicting their country of origin which was Ireland.
I asked the father why he did such a thing, he simply smiled at me and informed me that he was going to see his mother, and he wanted to show her that he was so proud to be second generation Irish and that he was going to bring up his son to be proud of his Irish heritage. Hence the beautiful cardigan the he received as a baby gift would go some way to display the proud heritage of this immigrant in the United States.
