SwordsSwords as a Graduation Gift“ 

Swords are in the main made from steel and of course one of the most famous places in the world for manufacturing these is Spain where the city of Toledo or also known as the “City of Councils” and it is said that the manufacture of swords in this place is as old as the town itself.

Around the 15th or 16th centuries the Swordcutlers Guild was first established and craftsmen from other parts of Europe and the rest of the world came to Spain to learn the art of sword making. It was very important to be able to make good swords as the were the main weapon of defense throughout the world at this time. One can only imagine the quantity needed to arm some of the armies around at that stage.

Swords range from 24″ to 48″ in lenght generaly and are made of hardened steel or tempered steel. Simply put the steel was shaped and the heated to where it was red hot and then immersed into water where it cooled rapidly and thus hardened.

There is one famous sword maker that I just have to mention and that is “Alonso Sahagun the Old” believed to be one of the best sword makers in history and he lived around the fifteen hundreds. Swords make a wonderful and lasting graduation gift.

The sword consists of the following;

The Hilt, the blade and the gruesome bloodgroove.
